This coming Friday, the attack in question by the company "Anonymous" will begin

Dave Abargel,

As every year – this coming Friday (07/04/2017) the much-discussed attack by the group "Anonymous" will begin,
What happened in recent years? And how can we defend ourselves?

anonymous

Who is Anonymous?

Anonymous is an internet phenomenon that began in 2003; the phenomenon consists of random, changing groups and people who collaborate in the face of "attack operations" for different purposes,
once against a particular government and another time against companies that experiment on animals. The targets change, and so does the composition of the group.

Why specifically April 7?

In 2013 the Anonymous organization decided The first time to attack Israel, on the date of Holocaust Remembrance Day at the time. It was a high-profile protest against what they defined as occupation, oppression and violation of human rights toward the Palestinians in the country,
Muslim and Arab activists, together with pro-Palestinian hacker organizations, launched in a cyberattack on government and public sites in Israel. The attack was dubbed Opisrael# (short for operation israell – "Operation Israel").
And so we were left with a constant attack Every year on April 7.

What has happened in recent years?

In previous years we saw very little real damage; usually dozens of non-major sites were defaced, with only their home page changed to anti-Israeli pages,
small information leaks, hacked Facebook accounts of Israelis, and above all a lot of media noise that serves the "deterrence effect" of Anonymous for any valuable purpose.

So how do we defend ourselves?

We have gathered several tips for you that will help you protect your site:

  • Do not open / click on a file or link if you did not understand who it came from or if it looks strange.
  • Keep your WordPress version and plugins up to date.
  • Limit the number of failed attempts to log in to your Admin area.
  • Do not use the username "Admin".
  • Do not approve messages saying that something you are doing is dangerous – without understanding why.
  • Use strong passwords containing letters, numbers and characters.
  • Use tools to detect security vulnerabilities.
  • Add two-factor authentication to logging in to your Admin area. (For advanced users).
  • Make sure your site is hosted on a secure WordPress server.
  • Make sure your computer is free of viruses and malware.
